Alcatel delivers first advanced broadband fiber network in Pakistan - 18 May 2006
Paris - Alcatel (Paris: CGEP.PA et NYSE:ALA) today announced that it has been selected by Nayatel (Pvt) Ltd. of Pakistan to supply the region's first fiber-to-the-home (FTTH) solution to deliver a full range of high bandwidth triple play (voice, video and data) services to over 30,000 subscribers in the capital city of Islamabad.
Nayatel, an alternate service provider, is at the forefront of broadband deployment in Pakistan, and Alcatel's fully standards compliant, all optical solution, provides Nayatel the scalability they require to cost-effectively support their rapidly expanding network.
"Alcatel has been chosen as the preferred supplier by Nayatel, due to their proven solutions in the field, and their technology and business partner approach to this challenging project in Pakistan", commented Mr. Wahaj-us-Siraj, CEO Nayatel.
"Alcatel's leading-edge FTTU and soft-switch solution enables both established and emerging market service providers, such as Nayatel, to cost-effectively deliver high revenue, next generation broadband services over an all-optical fiber based network.
Our relationship with Nayatel further demonstrates Alcatel's continuing commitment to helping accelerate broadband deployments in emerging markets", said Dirk Van den Berghen, President of Alcatel's access network activities.
Nayatel is deploying the Alcatel 7340 Fiber-to-the-user (FTTU) solution, along with the Alcatel 5020 Softswitch. The Alcatel 7340 FTTU is a robust solution based on passive optical network (PON) technology and builds on Alcatel's access technology, innovation and market leadership. It is a strategic choice for service providers such as NayaTel to confidently provide business and residential customers with triple play services using an all-fiber networking architecture.
The Alcatel 5020 Softswitch will provide Nayatel with next generation, scalable VoIP services. The Alcatel 5020 Softswitch, a key component of Alcatel's IP multimedia subsystem (IMS) solution, enables service providers to target a broadband installed base with multimedia services.
